Hi everyone!!

I heard that you can use sugar to increase your lather. I added some to my lye water but it did not dissolve so I threw it away. Should I add it to the water before the lye or add raw sugar at trace. How much should I use ? And has anybody heard from supersoaps. He was my mentor and it seems like he dropped of the planet or something.

Thanks

Celeste

Hi Celeste
I have just made two soaps this week using this technique. Here's a link which tells you how to add salt & sugar....

Don't add it to your lye water. Hold back a small amount of water and dissolve the sugar in that. When you are ready to mix your oils and lye water, then add it to your soap pot. Make sure that you mix it very well. You can also reformulate your recipe and add some castor oil for more bubbles.

Thank you Soapbuddy. I will try it that way. I mixed a tps of sugar ppo to my water before adding the lye once before and really could not note that much of a difference with the lather in my standard recipe. Thank you again

Soapbuddy. I have been adding castor at almost 5% but still not happy with it. Could you please look at this recipe for me and give me a pointer or 2?

Supersoaper was my mentor and he left the country to go tend his vinyard in Italy cause his parents are not well. He said he would be gone a long time so he gave me all of his supplies so I am trying to use this stuff. He gave me 20 gallons of coconut oil and drums after drum of olive oil and tons of stuff that I had to borrow a friends pickup truck to haul it all away. I got easy $800 worth of supplies for free from him and I live in a small apartment so I have buckets of oil next to my bed and everywhere. Funny since we started out meeting on this site and did not get along at first. I kinda miss the guy. Anyway Heres is my recipe that he helped me come up with.

26.67% Lard
22.86% Coconut oil (76 degree)
11.43% Canola
11.43% Olive
7.62% Palm Oil
15.24% Palm Kernel Oil
4.76% Castor

with 5% superfat

It makes a nice bar of soap but not a great bar of soap. I want to go to the next level. Here are the supplies he gave me so if I should add something different please give me some guidance.
Here is what he gave me--

Lard
Coconut Oil
Olive Oil
Castor Oil
Shea butter
Cocoa butter
Canola oil
Palm Oil
Palm kernel oil
beeswax
sweet almond oil
hemp oil
jojoba oil
aloe

Anything you can tell me I would be very grateful for!!!

Thank you again

Celeste

Here is what I would try. It should make a fairly hard bar, with fluffy and stable lather. I would do a 7% superfat. Mix all your oil and butter at once; don't add them at trace.

Lard 24.07%
Coconut oil (76 degree) 20.37%
Canola 10.19%
Olive 18.52%
Palm Oil 6.48%
Palm Kernel Oil 13.89%
Castor 3.70%
Shea Butter 2.78%

Hi SoapBuddy. I know this is an old post but I'm wondering why you advised Celeste to downgrade or remove the Canola oil from this recipe. What is the reason for that, and what oil should she substitute for the Canola?

Thanks,
Linda
