Teach Soap

Hi, I am getting ready to sell my soap at two different farmer's Markets. One of these locations requires liability insurance. I'm looking for the best deal I can find and still have good coverage. I also sell at 5 other locations. Is there a type of blanket coverage for soap sales? What is the average price of coverage, and does anyone recommend a certain company? I will also be selling vegetables at these farmer's markets. A friend of mine has 2mil. coverage for she and her husband's business also. The cost is over 1,000. I can't afford that kind of money. Any help and suggestions are welcome. Thank you. Judy In Kentucky

If your yearly sales are under $5,000, you can use RLI. If it's more, try the Soapmakers' Guild.

If you also make candles, do not bother contacting RLI -- I mentioned this to the agent and he said that he was not permitted to even give me a quote since they cannot insure anyone who makes candles. I said "what if I stop making candles" and he said "how do I know you won't make them at some point?"

I don't get it... what if you started cooking for someone and they became ill would we expect that to be covered? If some one is buying insurance for soap making then that is what I would expect to be covered. Or maybe it would cover all of the bath and beauty items. Candles?????? Where do the candle makers get insurance?
