Hi,

I'm going to make a batch of salt bar and here's what I'm going to do after reading some posts:

coconut 80%
castor 5%
cocoa powder 15%

sf 10%
water discount: should it be 20% or the usual 38% ?

I'm going to add sea salt the same weight as the oils at trace, put it in the mold and let it harden without insulating.
cut it as soon as it gets hard, about an hour after putting it in the mold.

I'll make half of the usual recipe for the mold since it's half oil half salt, but double the eo.

I noticed that salt bars weight more than regular soap bars, am I right? why is that?

Cocoa powder at 15% will most likely stain. I use my regular recipe for salt bars and add as much salt as the oils weigh. The bars are heavier because the salt adds extra weight.

oops!! I meant cocoa butter!
By salt bars weight more I meant they weight more in stores, eg. at the same store soap bars weight 4-5 oz, salt bars weight 6-7 oz.
may be I'm wrong?

ok, thanks. how about the recipe. Should I do 20% water discount? or 15% sf for this recipe?

Soapbuddy, what if I do coconut 90% and castor 10%, should I still superfat 10%?

i would like to second what soap buddy said about pouring into single molds. they are hard to cut into even bars, the single molds solved this problem for me.

Can salt bars be hot processed? I usually do my soaps in a crock-pot....
