I've never heard of online courses for soap making. And I'm not sure about certification either. Most places that hand out certifications for courses would be for safety courses required by governments, such as large machinery operating, or chainsaw courses.

Other than that, a certification from a soap making course would probably be made by a single person who is charging for such a course. and if they hand out a certificate, would not be a "real" certificate. Meaning it was handed out by a reputable company, or school that does this kind of training.

But a good plus to look into, would be Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). Which would give a certification for working safely with caustic chemicals such as lye.

I think soap making is really more of a hands on thing too.

Thanks Kat. After I posted my question I came across this site: http://www.universalclass.com/i/crn/33022.htm
I just taught it's not a bad idea to take some course just in case you miss something and you make sure
you're doing it right. But I agree that it takes some time and experiment to get it right.

Instead of a certificate, which the US doesn't recognize, I would read soapmaking books, study up on soapmaking oils, make a few batches and search this forum if you have questions. Save your money for oils, butters or fragrances. :)

It was just a taught. I've made so many batches of soaps for over a year now. I know there's a lot I still don't know.
I always get wonderful help from this forum, and I'm very thankful for that :)

I took a class at the tech collage here but there is no certificate. I did this as an introduction to soap making. The teacher then recommended further study with books and forums (which is how I ended up here). She was so correct when she said there was much more to learn. They also offer a class in aroma therapy and I may take that this fall.
