Teach Soap

hi all! I was looking for lip balm information, and during my searching came across some lotion bar topics. They sound very interesting, lol. For those that have used them, are they "hard" to apply, or do they spread nicely on the skin?

Honestly it depends on the recipe!
However, the ones that I prefer are pretty much the consistency of a chap stick... only for your skin.

what I had in mind (to start out simple) was beeswax, sweet almond oil, and mango butter. I'm just intrigued about lotion bars!

I like cocoa butter, shea and mango butter.

I have a dumb question- the more butters you add to the recipe, does it make the lotion bar more moisturizing? (but still going by the recommended amounts soapbuddy mentioned)

I turned my recipe for an ointment (herbal infused oil w/ beeswax) into a lotion bar( I had run out of containers) by adding more bees wax. that was all right, but too sticky. So I added some white wax (paraffin) and saved the batch. Most people really don't need a moisturizing bar, especially when they get used to using real soap, but what happens when you add paraffin it helps lock in the moisture and all the other wonderful nutritional benefits plants and or essential oils offer us.probably not for every day use, but it works magic on tough hide!

I love real soap and use it....but I have very dry skin...somedays I don't need a moisturizer right away...but end up needing it later ...other days I use lotion and butters a couple times a day and night...

I've been reading more on butters and am getting confused now. Let's just say it's for eczema. I've read that to get the maximum benefits (moisturizing/ healing properties), to use UNrefined shea/cocoa butter. Then I've read that using shea or cocoa butter is not recommended for eczema..to consult a physician. I know shea and cocoa butter seem to be the most popular, but after reading these things I'm tempted to stick with mango or avocado butter. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. TIA

Eczema affects different people differently. What works for one person, might not work for you. I would do a small patch test with any butters you choose and if there's no negative reaction, then use it. Unrefined shea works well with some people, so try it and see.
