This is the 3rd or 4th post in a row...my husband is watching the Masters & I would much rather talk soap! I know some soapers do CPOP & I was wondering, other than forcing gel, what other benefits are there? How do you CPOP?

Thanks!

When I do CPOP, I make CP soap, then put it into a preheated oven at 170 til it goes into a full gel. Take it out and cut when it cools off. Soap is pretty much saponified at this point. I still let it cure for at least 4 weeks. More water will evaporate, the soap will become harder with a good cure and will last longer in the shower.

I pretty much the same as Soapbuddy. I make it like CP, put it in an over that's been heated for about an hour and leave it in there for minimum 3 hours, but since I usually make soap in the evening it usually ends up being overnight.

I like it better than CP because it seems like I can use less fragrance, but I have no idea why exactly, and you can use it earlier. I've used them as soon as a couple of days afterwards and they do alright, though I wouldn't sell anything that hadn't cured for at least 2. Also, I get smoother bars when I do it this way. Again, no idea why just yet.

I do some of mine cpop and some not. It depends on the recipe and the fragrance. It seems that when I use Sandalwood, it looses it scent if I cpop. I also don't cpop my Honey Oatmeal because I am afraid it will overheat with the honey in it. I do cpop my Rosemary Peppermint and Lavender. I like that I can use them sooner.

Hi all,

So I want to check something out--I could be imagining this so I thought I would ask the question.

After doing both CP and CPOP with the same recipe over and over, I am convinced that CPOP makes a softer bar by the 6 week mark than the CP. Same recipe, same FO, softer bar.

Any thoughts on this? Could this be real or just my imagination?

Lisa

CPOP sounds interesting, so Soapbuddy, I make soap as usual, then put it in the mold, so would my wooden mold be okay? would I put it on a cookie sheet?

So I put it in the oven for 170 degrees, how long does it stay there? and then when I take it out do I cover it and let it sit? I would like to try this as well with small batches. I just want to make sure I understand :D

OK, I am new to soaping, I have about 5 batches of CP under my belt. If I have this right, I can make my CP like I have been, then put my wooden loaf mold in the oven at 170 degrees, then turn the oven off. Take the mold out of the oven after a few hours (or overnight) and cut the soap. Then just a 2 week cure time?

What am I missing? Why would I not do CPOP? It seems like a great alternative to shorten cure time.

Is the final product just as nice?

Thank you all in advance for your wisdom! :)
