It depends what it will be used for. Salicylic Acid is made from willow bark and it's an ingredient in aspirin tablets. It's also called beta hydroxy acid. Used improperly, it can burn the skin or make it more sensitive.

I have acne problems at my T-zone on my face. I tried to make my own soap and toner and serum to help out instead of over the counter commercial products. I tried tea tree, lavender, French green clay, glycolic acid,... etc. Not working so well, more breakouts then using commercial products I used with 2% Salicylic Acid face wash. So I thought maybe I should incorporate Salicylic Acid into my soap.

Handmade soap is a wash off product. I'm not familiar in using it in handmade soap, but I know that salicylic acid can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin if used without a broad spectrum sunscreen. Have you tried Benzoyl peroxide on the areas that are acne prone? What about a clay mask? How is your diet? Do you drink enough water?

I don't think salicylic acid would do anything in CP soap. The natural ph of bar soap would make it ineffective. Acids are low ph.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think salicylic acid is what is used for professional face peeling. You'd need to be very careful of the amount you use.

Tomato CP soap?! Hum... interesting concept, wondering how it would react with lye.

I just got online to check out Lotioncrafter new products and this got my attention:


I know willow bark can be used as a natural preservative but I never know that it contains salicylic acid like substance without the irritation. Is this too good to be true?
