Hi everyone!

I normally either do the usual wait for lye and oils to cool to 110 or so, or I do cold solid oils with hot, hot lye mixed with RT liquid oils if I am just doing a solid color soap. However, I recently saw someone use RT lye with hot oils. Tried it myself this weekend and the soap turned out really oily. I probably should note I CPOP.

What is the correct way to do this? I think she had her lye at RT 74 or so and her oils at 125 but in doing just that, I got the oily soap. Any suggestions?

Lisa I have done a few batches with RT lye and warm oils. It takes longer to trace and incorporate that way for me. Did you try to use the SB? That usually quickens things up a bit! That is the only hint I have but then again I'm on my 4th batch and I insulate most of my batches, except the refer coconut milk batch.

I am still looking for the correct way to do RT lye. .

If I make lye night before and leave out, it will be about 70 degrees in the am. What temp do I heat up my oils to counteract the cold lye so that I can be at 110 degrees after I mix the lye and oils.

So many people seem to be able to do this method, but I guess I have issues. And also wondering since I cpop, if this method might create more problems when I go to heat up again in the oven.

Advice please.

Thanks,

Lisa

In this CPOP technique does anyone have the answer to this question following, or is it just keep experimenting until you find the correct answer?

I've never been successful in making RT lye, but we keep our home quite cool so RT for us is in the mid-60's. If I do make lye ahead of time, what I will do is set the container of lye water in a bowl of hot water for 10-15 minutes to bring the temp up to around 90. Then it seems to work well with oils in the 95-105 range. It's what works for me.
