Can you use epsom salts for this or will they melt in the soap? Anyone tried epsom?

Epsom salts have a lot of natural moisture, which could make your CP soap weep.

I use pickling salt which is almost like table salt but doesn't have the extra anti-caking additives like some table salts have. Probably makes no difference but if the issue ever comes up I can say it's pure salt. The price is almost the same as table salt.

ok so I tried this today. I did:

80% coconut
5% each shea, soybean, olive and castor
plus salt, of course. kosher salt (its what i had on hand)

the soap took much longer to trace than normal. its been in a warm oven for about 1.5 hours and is still kinda mushy. i keep checking on it... hopefully it'll come out ok!

it finally started to solidify so i freaked out and pulled it out and cut it. it was still going through gel and kinda mushy in the middle still, so the final product is nothing pretty, but they finished gelling and seem very nice. can't wait to try these!

it's got the ring of an ungelled batch, but they're solid, which is good. I added a little antique blue mica but it's just barely colored. I'm going to wait and see how these turn out before I try again!

salt tends to bleach out colorants, and also seems to skew tints toward the blue end of the spectrum. if you want a really visible color in the bar, the soap in the mold should be really vibrant. like a lot more vibrant than you hope for in the end result.
