Hi All,

Another Monday down! I am interested in making a salt bar but have no clue where to start. I did a google search but nothing came up. Does anyone have instructions, recipes or a great website?

You could try doing a 100% coconut bar with a high (20%) superfat and use the same weight in salt that you do oil. Mix the salt in at trace and quickly get it into the mould- it will set up fast. You'll need to cut it fairly soon or the bars will be too hard and crumbly to cut. I've cut as soon as an hour or 2 after pouring into the mould. Good luck!

I agree with Kim. For salt, use regular table salt. If you use sea salt or epsom salt they have a lot of moisture and could make your soap weep.

Ok. I'm not much into pampering myself so I have to ask. What is the benefit of a salt bar? To me, salt will dry out your skin like swimming in the ocean. And equal amounts of salt & oil? Seems like a lot of salt!! Still so much to learn.

I myself find that I can use my regular soap formula for a nice salt bar. I just add however much salt I want and it works out great and not too drying. My oils I use are Palm, coconut, sunflower and sweet almond oil. I just prefer not using all coconut oil and I still get great lather and bubbles. I don't find mine crumble much when cutting, probably because I use less salt. I would say I use 5 oz per lb. of oils, but I'd have to check my notes. Salt bars sell well for me, but I coudn't really tell you if there are any benefits associated with the salt?? Bars do float.

Yes, MissRhosie, it's for CP. if you wait any longer to cut the salt bars they'll crack and crumble, you really do have to cut them when they are just set up. Be sure to wear gloves -- i learned the hard way
