Hello,

I purchased the following Organic Pre-Made Lotion Bases to make Scented Lotions from Bramble Berry: 1. Organic Body Butter, 2. Organic Creme Base and 3. Organic Lotion Base. I have checked the ingredients listed in each of them and I'm still not sure if they have a Perservative or an Emulsifier in them. I also would like to know about using food coloring to color my lotions. Please answer the following questions.

1a. Do I need to add a Perservative (Germaben II) to the Organic Pre-Made Lotion Bases I purchased?

OR

1b. Would I ONLY need to add the Germaben II to the Organic Pre-Made Lotion Bases if I ADD COLOR TO THEM?

2a. Do I need to add an Emulsifier to any of the Organic Pre-Made Lotions Bases?

2b. If yes, which Emulsifier is better to use with the Organic Pre-Made Lotion Bases: Emulisfying Wax or BTMS 50 Emulsifying Conditioner?

3a. Can I use regular food coloring to add color to my scented lotions?
3b. If yes, what brand would you recommend?
3c. Will the food coloring trigger an allergic reaction in people with sensitive skin?

I'm confused...You bought the Organic Lotion Base, yet you want to put lab made color in it? Food colors are not meant to be used in lotions. Lotion base is best used with a small amount of fragrance or essential oil added. You do not need an extra preservative. Never add another emulsifier to lotion that has already been made. Food coloring can definitely cause an allergic reactions with people that have allergies. I would not use any color at all. With that said, if you feel you must absolutely add color to your lotions, I would use colors that are skin and body safe. Ditto for the body butter or creme.

I color my lotions because I use clear bottles to put them in and use clear labels on that. I like that look. I know I read somewhere that if you use a colorant in your lotions it has to be a FD+C color so that is what I use. Most of them are very strong and a couple of drops goes a long way.

As for coloring scented lotions:
I had already purchased a product called LabColor for Melt & Pour - Low PH. The place I purchased it from does on carrying FD & C Powdered Colors.

The ones I purchase is suppose to be easy to use and clean up after.
