Teach Soap

Hi again,

I am making an olive oil calendula infusion as we speak. I'm using 1 lb. of OO, and threw in a few handfulls of petals but don't know how much is needed to generate the desired health benefits. It took me about an hour to sift through the claendula b/c I didn't realize when I bought it online that it wasn't just petals...newbie mistake & a huge pain in the arse ! I actually bought 6 oz. which is a ton of it...again, newbie learning curnve going on here! Does anyone have advice on how much to use PPO? Also, can I use the oil with the petals still in it when I make my soap, or do I have to sift the petals out?

It's hard to say as far as desired benefits as it's a wash off product and with contact with lye. I add about 1 oz. of just the petals to my large soap batch for a visual appeal. I would use the infused oil in a lotion bar instead to get the more therapeutic benefits of calendula.

Lotion bars are easy peasy! 1/3 oils, 1/3 butter(s), 1/3 wax. And you're welcome.

Soapbuddy, now you have my mind working overtime thinking about all the possibilities of lotion bars. My (new) husband is never going to see me!

how do lotion bars work exactly???

My curiosity peaked as well here....

After mixing the liquified ingredients, add EO.....then what? Obviously pour it into mold(s). Can someone post a photo of some they've made please? Can you use soap molds....like Kelsei molds or something like that?

I use 1/3 Beeswax, 1/3 oils (split in two between avocado and jojoba) and 1/3 butters (split in two between shea and cocoa). Melt everything together, add scent, then pour into molds. You can use pretty much any type of mold. I like to use the roll up deodorant style tubes. Once they harden that's it. Very easy and people love them. Here is a pic of mine.
