What happens if you pour a little too early? I tried a new recipe tonight and it seemed to be taking forever to get to trace. It started to glob up so I added my FO and colorant, stirred a little more, thought I had a good trace going and poured. When I poured it, it seemed like it had reverted back to med. trace. Do I just need to keep it in the mold longer to set up? Thanks.

P.S. Sorry if this is a really dumb question. I have all of 4 batches under my belt and fortunately each one of them turned out great from start to finish. This is my first batch I'm unsure about...

I'm going to assume that "glob up" was full trace. It is not uncommon to have fo's slow trace down, so it makes sense that it seemed thinner again after adding the colorant and fo. Also, if you use a colorant that requires water to dilute, that also could have thinned down your batch. I have had plenty of batches set up just fine at thin trace. When you unmold it in 12-24hrs, as long as there is no oil or any kind of separation, it is fine.

Keep in mind that many fo's speed up trace and getting it out of the pot is way more of a challenge than too thin!

If it was medium trace and everything was mixed in well, you should be fine. I pour at thin trace if I'm trying to swirl.

Whew! Thanks for the advice. I peeked at it and everything seems normal. I wasn't aware that some FO's do that. I guess you learn something new everyday (especially with soap!)
