I don't know if any of the coconut scent came through because I scented it with Coconut Lemon Verbena. So for me, I suppose so. LOL! My bars came out yellowish which is what I was going for. But the oils I use are pretty yellow in color. I am just waiting to use it! I don't know if I can wait 6 weeks!!

When I make coconut milk soap, I dissolve the lye in a small amount of water first while melting my oils together. It seems to me that the less liquid used with the lye the hotter the mixture becomes. I then add the cooled lye/water to the cooled oils and stir well. I then add the coconut milk and continue to stir. I have never lost a batch of soap using this method, so it works for me. And because I add honey to my coconut milk soap I don't insulate it. The honey heats up the soap to where it goes through the gel process without loosing heat quickly.

Whoa. Cool photo of soap volcano. I use canned coconut milk and mix the lye directly into it like I would to water. I chill the coconut milk first and add the lye very slowly. I scent it with BB's "dark rich chocolate" and pour it into horse and dog molds. I pass them out to kids during craft shows to draw the moms to the tables....where of course they buy more soap :D Forget goat's milk. Coconut milk is da bomb.

Haven thank you so much for bringing this thread forward! WOW thanks everyone for all the great info!

SO I'M reading the lables on the green and blue cans of coconut milk. OH NO! The blue can 400 ml, is 41 percent saturated fat with 2 grams of carbohydrate and 1 g sugar.

The green can is 400 ml 15 percent saturated fat, no sugar and no carbohydrate. Both from Thailand both claim to be Coconut Milk, not cream, just milk! Oh I thought the buying of the coconut milk would be the easy part!

So my question is which one should I use? Any and all thoughts are more than welcome!!! LOL Thanks you all!

I would go with the first one. The second one sounds diluted.

Thanks soapbuddy. The can that you think is possibly diluted, is a gourmet brand! LOL

So with the sugar and carbohydrate should I plan on this soap being a dark tan color?

If I pour into a cooled mold and refrigerate right away what color would you guess the soap would be?

Sorry to be such a bother, I really want to do this tomorrow morning, really!

The first one has 41 percent saturated fat which to me means it's more concentrated than the one that only has 15 percent saturated fat. If you are replacing all of your water with the coconut milk, here is what I would do. Freeze half of the milk needed. Put the other half in the fridge. When you are ready to soap, combine the frozen and the cold milk together, then stir in the lye. That should keep the milk from reaching too high of a temp, caramelizing or scorching.

Prechill your mold. If you are not using any waxes, melt your oils/butters just enough, then stir the rest of the way til everything melts. Soap at around 100 degrees. Stick blend to med. trace if you are noat adding anything else. Put either in the fridge or the freezer, up to overnight. If in the freezer, let the soap come to room temp before cutting.

Ungelled soaps take longer to saponify, so be aware that the soap could still zap 24 hours later. It helps if you cut the soap with gloves as a precautionalry measure. The final color will be from cream to light tan.

It's been 3 weeks since I made mine and it has slowly turned a darker color. The partial gel ring (even though I immediately refrigerated it) is slowly spreading throughout the bars. It is still wonderful in the shower. I wish it wasn't so dark in color. Oh well. That's ok. Melia, I'm glad that you got the courage to do it. I really like it.

My coconut batch so far so good. The oil sweat was re absorbed, it was very light like sweat on a forhead that isn't running!

Yesterday I put it in the freezer and an hour and then unmolded. I think it was necessary as the bars and loaf are so soft. I put it in a cardboard box lightly covered with wax paper, to protect from dust and such. Turned it this am and it is still the same creamy color, still on the soft side. I'm not sure if it needs to cure 4 or 6 weeks, but it has a load of drying to do! This soap will be the very best if it hardens and cures as I hope it will. Beginners luck and loads of help from the pros for sure!

This soap making is teaching my impulse to be patient and leave well enough alone!

Mella,
Just leave the soap be for 4 to 6 weeks. By that time most of the liquid should have evaporated.

Thanks soapbuddy! Should I turn it every day and keep it rotated for the entire time? I hope that doesn't sound backward! LOL
