Teach Soap

I found out about an organization in FL yesterday that takes donations of soap and ships to Haiti. I'm ashamed to admit that it never dawned on me that children DIE in countries from diarrhea due to poor hygiene. I think about how many times I've taken for granted simply washing my hands!

The organization is called:

I contacted them and they confirmed that they do take soap....all kinds! I sent my husband to the post office this morning with a flat rate box loaded with 15lbs of mishappen/muggly soap that I created and had no clue what to do with. Stuff that won't ever sell or I would even give away to friends or family but still good soap, just not aesthetically pleasing. Talk about a win-win situation! I get rid of soap clogging my work space and who knows, maybe we can save a few kids in the process. This is great, JustPeachy. It looked from their website like they rebatch and sterilize? Did you wrap your soaps? I was going to, then figured that would be counterproductive if they rebatch. Can we just send a box, or did you provide some sort of information about yourself and your soap? This seems like a win/win plan. I've just ordered some flat rate boxes and I'm sure I can easily fill one. Thanks for letting us know.

I have MANY issues with USPS but we won't get into that here.

I won't swear to this but I'm pretty sure that group shreds and rebatches all of the soap they receive... which makes sense if you think about it. Since they can't vouch for the purity of anything that they didn't make it's probably better to be safe and sterilize everything before passing it on. Plus they probably have standard sizes and packaging for what they send out.

Your soap will be re-batched, so it doesn't need to be labeled. Any type of soap is acceptable. The soap will be sent to Haiti.

I joined their facebook group and was sent a message this morning that they need volunteers to process a very large shipment. I'm gonna spend a day helping out on Saturday. I'm so psyched!
