Happy New Year to everyone. I am a newcomer to the candle/soapmaking scene and made my first batch of votives yesterday, using the IGI 4794. I had small bubbles throughout the candles and they look as if I did not make a second pour. Can someone enlighten me as to where I might have gone wrong?

Thank you.

Dianne

Welcome!
At what temp did you pour? Did you add any color or scent? If so, was the scent & color made for candles?

I poured at 185 degrees and yes, the fragrance oil and color are all for candle.

Did you use an electric kettle to melt the wax? What did you use to mix with?

Yes, I used the Presto Kitchen Kettle and mixed with a wire wisk.

With a spoon just make sure that you fragrance is mixed very very well. You don't want to end up with fragrance spots, which could ignite and cause damage.

Using a wire whisk will definitely incorporate air into your wax makings those bubbles. Seems like it would also be a nuisance to clean up the wax off all the tiny wires.

I use wooden spoons. They are cheap and work great for blending and incorporating fragrance oils, dyes, and wax additives into your wax.

Your heating temp also sounds good so the culprit is most likely the wisk. Another thing you can try is tapping the side of your pour pot before pouring. That helps pockets of air and bubbles to come up to the surface and be released.

I don't use a wooden spoon as I don't know how well it would last over a long time. I use either plastic that is safe for high heat or I use a silicone one.

I have been using the same wooden spoons for four years now. Never had to replace one and they clean up easy. Plastic spoons sound good too but I love my wooden spoons.
