I read on Millersoap.com that she uses crayons or candle wax for colorants. Now, I know this is kind of frowned upon, but I have a few of the candle blocks left over from a disasterous attempt at making my own candles. (Long story involving me being a complete clutz lol) I was wondering, if they're only for MY use and I wouldn't be letting other people use them...could I go ahead and try using them up? If so, how much do you usually use? (My recipes are all about 4lbs) Do the colors usually stay "true" or will I most likely get ghastly gray?:) Thanks so much!

Please don't use crayons or especially candle colors. The crayons might be ok for just yourself, but candle colors are not skin safe.

Ah, well, I'll just give them to a friend who wants to try candlemaking...thanks:) Now if only I could find a colorant that will make a nice azure blue without morphing *pout*

Try a CP recipe that has the lightest oils and butters possible and add ultramarine blue. Make sure that the fragrance you use doesn't discolor.

I'm quite new...still gathering my supplies so pardon me this question....what exactly are "light" oils and butters? :)

And, I have everything I need now except the candy thermometers! If I can brave the snow, I may go get them tomorrow because my father loves me and handed me $100 to buy the things I needed as a Christmas present lol. I spent all day cleaning up my storage room....when new things came over the past few months I just chucked them on the shelves because I had NO room. Dad finally made me two built in shelving units for the dinette, and me, mom, and aunt went through/sorted everything. It looks soooo much better now. I can actually see what I have! LOL

I'll let you know how my first batch goes! (I'm terrified actually...I'm a complete clutz. I figure if I suit up, AND keep a gallon of vinegar at my side, I should be allright lol)

The term light oils is new to me also. I would be interested in the definition also!

Didn't mean to confuse you. What I meant by "light" was light in color; ie: extra light olive, coconut, refined mango or shea butter, castor oil etc... These will create a fairly white bar, which is easier to color.

Ahhh gotcha:) For some reason I thought you were talking about "light" as it weight. And this blonde is over here wondering how the heck you figure that out when I measure the oils by weight anyways lol ..............I think I need to quit dying my hair. It's sinking deeper apparently LOL
