Hi to all of you that use a stick blender for processing,

What is the wattage of your stick blender. I have seen some cheap ones with a wattage of 200 and 250 watts. Plus an expensive one for $99 AUD which was 600 watts. Obviously the more watts the better, but do you still achieve good results with a lower wattage one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers :?

I bought a cheapie for $20 which lasted me about a month. I now use a Braun and have a back up of Braun also.

I got mine from Go-Lo, it has a detachable base which is great for washing up. So far I've done about a dozen batches with it and it's going great

I bought a $15 cheapie (not sure of the wattage) and it has lasted me more than a year now. But considering the amount of soap I make that's probably around 5 minutes in Soapbuddy time. :)

Just an idea. My stick blender is also a cheepy 13.99 cvs, plastic! You'll need the slow speed, this one is 120 watts. Remember plastic or steel and no aluminum when soaping. I'd be saving the high end stick blender, called a boat motor in our house, the high end for those sauces and gourmet soups and such.

Hi Mella,

Is that a cute little "Bengal" that I see in the picture???? I have 2 bengals.

Sorry for the off-subject here

I also have a cheap stick blender. I my mind, go cheap and replace them. I've had mine over a year now. I figure I can buy 1 a year for 10 years and not buy the expensive one.

Thanks for all your help,

Is it best to use the stick blender on slow speed and not fast?

And do you recommend stirring with a whisk or spoon inbetween blasts from the stick blender?

Cheers

Thanks everyone for your help,

I made up a batch with olive, rice bran and coconut oils today. I first hand mixed and then used short bursts from the stick blender on low speed. I achieved trace in 3 minutes. My previous attempt with this recipe took 20 minutes, so I was well pleased.

I bought a couple of silicon loaf pans from the cheapie shop for $5 each and the quantity filled two of these perfectly. After about an hour I had a peek, and the soap had reached gel stage. It was sure giving off a lot of heat. I left the cover off to allow it to cool down slightly and then recovered it. it is firming up nicely, and I can't wait to unmold it tomorrow morning.

Once again, thanks for all of the very useful advice. This forum is awesome. I have learnt so much from reading the old posts.

Cheers
