okay... so i am working hard to figure out what keeps going wrong with my body butter recipe. once cooled it starts out great... rich just the way i like it. melts like butter when i rub it between my hands. but after a few days it is drier on top and after awhile it becomes harder and even grity in spots closer to the bottom of the jar. it will still melt when i rub my hands together but i must work harder. I plan to make gifts for the holidays and plan to start my own business soon so this will never do. the recipe calls for cornstarch which i left out of the last batch thinking this may fix the problem but still grit... here is the recipe
8 oz cocoa butter
4 oz beeswax
4 oz shea butter
4 oz sweet almond oil
.2 oz liquid silk
.8 oz FO
.2 oz vitamin e oil
.2 oz jojoba oil
.2 oz cornstarch
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Shea butter can go grainy. Sounds like that's what happened to you. I don't use corn starch, but do you lighter oils like fractionated coconut. Is you liquid silk oil or water soluble? That could be part of your problem too.

ok... also u said that at times the shea butter can get gritty do I need to worry about that in body cream & lotion also?
