Hi Karen,

The difference for me would be price, time/productivity/waste and multi-use.

I’d like to have liquid lecithin on hand to slow trace with fast accelerating fo’s.

Liquid lecithin, assuming it works in the molds is more cost effective for me than the spray which has lecithin in it.

With canola/lecithin spray, I have to blot out bubbles from those molds. I assume the bubbles are from the propellant that’s in it in place of alcohol. With liquid lecithin I'd probably have less waste. I’d wipe the cavities down with a small amount of lecithin. I wouldn’t use it in the batch. I’d use it in the molds.

It's a matter of personal choice in terms of which to use-assuming that the lecithin works by itself.

You can buy liquid soy lecithin at a health food store, (where you may pay a premium for it) GNC, some pharmacies or health food sections of supermarkets may have it. Locally, I can find the gel capsules which I’m not going to fool with, but haven’t run across the liquid yet. I haven’t gone out of my way to look for it though. Vitacost.com has it for about $6.60 (32 oz.) and I buy other things from there.

If you’re happy with the spray after using it, heck, use that. Sometimes I’m willing to pay more for convenience. :) And, I'm going to use my Canola/lecithin spray until it's gone. It works!

Good luck with your molds and your batch. :)

When I spray the molds, I hold the can about 6" or so upright and hold the mold upright and give a light spray moving the can back and forth. It only takes about 2 passes to work. I have never had bubbles or any blotting to do using this method. I also pound my molds on the counter after filling to level them out and remove any trapped air. Glad to hear it worked for you Kate! Also, so much for the 100% Canola oil posted on the front of the Crisco can---- geesh! Good report on the soy lecithin!

Thanks from me too, Knine. I'll try spraying that way. I sprayed down in the molds. Thanks for the Crisco Canola tip, too! :D

Test #2 was with Spectrum's high temp non-stick spray with lecithin. Very messy. Held the molds up, did the two passes, got a lot of foaming bubbles and excess. Wiped the molds out. Didn't have time to use them for 3 days. Didn't add any more spray. Made a batch of HP in the morning and it popped out of the molds the same evening with little effort. The Spectrum spray was really messy to use but resulted in it being super easy to get soap out of hard to release molds.

Today I used Pam non-stick Canola spray with lecithin. It was the easiest of the 3 sprays to spray with. Hardly any bubbles and it coated lightly. The soap literally rolled out of these normally hard to release molds with slight pressure on the side of each bar.

All of these tests were performed with CPHP soap which previously had been a bear to get out of these molds even with SL and freezing them.

Next up for testing.... lecithin.

Thanks Soapbuddy. DH is happy that he no longer has to deal with getting soap out of these molds. I couldn't do it and he could barely do it without breaking the molds.

Karen, I noticed tonight when I washed the molds with soap and water that they were beading from oil so I think they're pretty well seasoned. Yours may just take a few more times.

The second spray I used, btw, (the messy one) Spectrum's high heat non-temp spray, was an olive oil spray, not Canola. Lecithin is the next to last ingredient on the back label, which leads me to believe more than ever that it *is* what's keeping the soap from sticking.

I used the Pam again. It's my favorite of the 3 sprays. No muss, no fuss. I can even spray down in the molds and I don't have bubbles or a ton of excess. Fingers crossed that it works as well for you with CPOP.

edited for typo.

Thanks Kate. I'm busy trying to get some lotions made for Christmas. I will try them again after I get Christmas presents made.
