I just ordered some stearic acid, but I forgot emulsifying wax. I have shea butter on hand, as well as coconut and palm oil (I haven't seen a lotion recipe using palm oil, I'm just saying what I have). I can also get grape seed oil locally. I don't want to have to order a lot of oils and pay a ton of shipping. Is there a basic recipe that would give a nice lotion using easy to get oils? Oh, I need to order a preservative too, but I'm not keen on using anything with parabens.

Help? :D I made lotion once a few years ago with beeswax and it was just a liquid and terrible! :x

You really do need an emulsifier like e-wax. As far as preservatives, you can use Cosmocil CQ, Germal Plus or Optiphen. These are all paraben free.

I'm going to buy emulsifying wax, I just don't want to order a ton of oils you know? Are there any basic recipes that use oils that I have on hand or can get at the grocery store?

You can use most any oils; olive, almond, coconut, jojoba or grapeseed. If your grocery store does not carry these, try your local health food store.

For a basic lotion, you could try something like this:

Water: 74%
Oil: 16.5% (You can use whatever combo you like)
Shea or Mango Butter 4%
E Wax NF: 3.5%
Stearic acid: 1%
Preservative - per vendors recommendation ( I alloted 1%, but most of them use less)

Play around with this formula til you get something that you like.
