Hi Annie, what was your base. I have made a few lotions and creams some have been good and others... maybe with the powders you have added you should change the consistency by whipping it for a period. When I make cream with shea butter, the whole grainy thing happens but in the end it becomes smooth. Lavender butter is much smoother and lighter. Not sure if this is where you were headed but.

Rose hip powder will make your lotion grainy. If you reheat the lotion, you will compromise the preservative. I don't think there is much you can do now.

According to Camden Grey,

'Our Lavender Butter for cosmetic use is actually an extract of whole Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) flowers using a Sweet almond Oil/Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil mix which produces a smooth, velvety “butter” at room temperature with the wonderfully soothing aroma of Lavender."

You can make your own for less.

You could take hydrogenated soy (or hydrogenated vegetable oil) and either infuse some fresh lavender flowers in it, or add drops of lavender oil to the hydrogenetated oil. This type of oil is a soft solid at room temp, just like butter.

Next time don't use the rose hips powder. If you still want to, then steep it like a tea and strain through fine cloth. I use a piece of 100% cotton sheet which strains finer than cheesecloth. The other thing I do when adding milk powder is to really let it dissolve nicely in warm water before adding it. Of course your warm milk water and rose hips tea would have to be included in your total water % so you would have to measure it all and make sure it's correct.
