Okay so I ordered the 7 lb bags of palm and coconut oil from Brambleberry. I like to melt them down and pour them into big large mouth jars so that I can easily scoop them out. Today I was pouring them into their jars and my daughter informed me that I had "topped off" the palm oil with about 6 oz of coconut oil. Is this ruined?

it's not ruined; it will just take some math. If these are 16 oz jars and you have 6 oz. of coconut; that means the jar holds 10 ozs. of palm. Did the two mix? Since I don't know of a way to separate the two, I would just mix them together very well.
So you have approx. 10% coconut and the rest is palm. makes sense?

thanks!! The palm oil was just barely starting to solidify when I poured in the nicely melted coconut oil :( The jars are big commercial size mayonnaise jars. They did mix together. I don't know how far down the jar it traveled. I might just try adjusting my recipe a little bit and see if it works out okay. Thank you for your help!!

You're welcome. Let us know how it goes when you make the next batch. :)

Just so you know, a lot of oils will cool and settle into layers. Thicker, denser parts of the oil sink to the bottom. If you are just scraping off the top of the butters then you are not getting the full mix of pure oils. This could lead to some issues in the finished bars of soap. We always recommend melting the entire amount and giving a stir before using. :D

So I made a batch of soap today with my oops oils. I'm noticing now that the top of the soap in the mold looks like it's sweating. There's little pools of liquid (not sure if oil or water). I used a new FO from a different company than I normally use too. Is this going to be ok? It's in a gel phase now but my other batches have not done this before.

Should I melt the whole jar of mixed oils (from my mistake) and mix them completely or just learn from my mistake and toss it?

Sweating could be from overheating, or from the new fragrance. Did you check the FO out on the Scentreviewboard before you soaped it? http://soapscentreview.obisoap.ca/index.php

Melt the whole jar of mixed oils (from your mistake) and mix them completely.

It's not necessarily ruined. Wait a few days to see if the sweating will absorb back in.

It looks like it's drying up a bit. Should I cut it?

If this is a hard oil/butter recipe, you can cut it now. Otherwise wait a day.

The only way to know if this batch is good is to wait a couple of days, then test for zap.
Just give it more time. :)
