Teach Soap

This kind of smells like well, I dunno, like NOT the fragrance I added. LOL.

Juniper Berry =2lbs = 32oz

16oz Lard 50%
6.4oz Coconut (76degree) 20%
3.2oz Olive 10%
6.4oz Canoloa 20%

After heating my oils I added 4 oz frozen/slushy soy milk to the lye solution (8 oz chilled tea)

Lye: 4.4oz or 126 grams

for about a 6% superfat
Lye was at 95 degrees and oils at 100 even

At trace I added the JB-fragrance plus 1 tbs. ground juniper berries and 2 tbs. ground oatmeal

I'm trying to figure out if I used enough fragrance (1 oz. of Juniper Breeze from Heavenly Scent) or if I used too much Lard in this recipe. I don't mind that the soap is soft now, I know it will harden in the weeks to come. But I had heard of a "bacony" kind of smell when using Lard in CP. Maybe it's a combination of the caustic smell and the lard...

Any lard soapers around?

It could be the lard with the combo of soy milk. I would give it some time.

Also, I've noticed several times that fresh from the mold soap doesn't smell the best..... after a few days, check it again.

Yeah I just made a hemp soap using a YUMMY Nag Champa FO... I couldn't wait to get it out of the mold... but then it just sorta smelled like... hmmm... not much

After a couple of days the Nag Champa is beginning to resurface.
I'm thinking of calling this one Rope in a Soap!

the juniper is definitley starting to surface. I still get that faint hit of lard...LOL...not so sure if I'm a fan of using it.

I have yet to use soap made from animal fat.

I've noticed that when I use milk the cut bars are stinky. Kind of like egg farts. Sorry, that's the only way I can think of to describe it. It does go away after curing for a bit. All the soaps I've done with just water don't smell that way. I don't have any experience with lard though.
