Hi all!
Hope you can help me with this. I discovered soap jellies maybe a year ago at Lush and fell in love, but, because I have a lot of skin sensitivities, decided not to buy until I'd looked into their ingredients. As I suspected, they contained sodium laureth sulfate, which I'm pretty sensitive to, so I haven't gotten to buy any.
My mom and I were thinking about making some; the only liquid soap I know of that doesn't contain SLS (besides some shampoos, which I'm not sure would work?) is castile soap, so we've been trying to use that, but we've had a lot of trouble getting it to gel. The only thing we could get to work was gelatin, but then, of course, they melted when we left them out of the fridge, and we decided that was too much of a hassle to remember every time either of us went to have a shower. We've tried agar agar and carageenan, and just last weekend we tried pectin. We're not up for using borax (we also have an ant problem, and if it kills ants, we suspect it won't be super nice on my skin).
So I have two different questions:
1. Does anyone have any ideas for a chemical that will gel castile soap that won't also give a person a rash?
2. Does anyone have any recommendations for other liquid soaps that gel with agar agar, carageenan, or pectin, but don't have SLS? Would shampoo?
Thank you!
