I decided before Christmas that I want to make soap. Melt and Pour sounds best for me as I have never made soap in my life. Also, I can't afford to buy in bulk. The shipping costs more than the ingredients!!! I am currently DEPRESSED!!! If anyone has any ideas/input I will highly appreciate it. Thank you all so much!

All depends on which country you are in,

If Australia - (Myself!) i'd be more than happy to give you heaps of contacts for whatever state your'e in! (since soap suppliers are notoriously difficult to track here lol)

If USA - bramble berry is probably the best (not saying this just because they own this blog! haha) but because they have a huge range of sopamaking supplies and pretty much anything soap :P

With other countries - just try looking up local soap suppliers, or even just go to the local supermarket, i never went the melt and pour route since for me it seemed too limited - just went straight into CP Soap (though did do a soap making class first which was 100% worth the cost and time)

But Anyway for melt and pour soap i'm pretty sure from memory looking it up you can get 1-2kg melt and pour soap bases for around $20 - $30 with free shipping, then all you really need is a soap pot and a few moulds, with more equipment and materials can do more - thermometer, spatula, soap colours, Essential Oils or Soap/skin safe Fragrance oils, etc....

Anyway have fun and good luck! :)

Ahhhh darn shipping, hmmm well in the United States so i guess pick up could be an option as well? :) apparently there's tons of suppliers in the US, though i have no idea where they are geographically...lol :P

Anyway that's all cool :) one idea i always get told is i think even candles may be even cheaper to make than soap? (though i have no idea how to make them haha) but for me i just love the satisfaction of making soap! :D Have a great day as well! :)

No, no. Don't give up on soap making! Look up some large suppliers then find one closer to you geographical region. I buy from Brambleberry because they are on the west coast and I am on the west coast. Also, sometimes I visit my daughter in Seattle and while she is at work I will drive up to Bellingham and save shipping. Also, there is a soapmaker in my town who buys more in bulk and she will sell to me which comes out about the same as adding shipping.
Another trick. When I order from Brambleberry I will put together my order for the stuff I need then I look at the shipping. Then I will continue to add to my order with light weight stuff, clays or colors until just before I move to the next shipping level. That way you get the most bang for your buck.
You might check out Whole Supplies Plus.
Hey.......if you think soap making is expensive try quilting!!!!

I just placed two dummy orders. I am in California. One company was in Washington state one in Ohio. The shipping from Brambleberry to me was $2.70 less.

Another tip. Shop company sales and clearance (remain flexible). Get on a companies email or Facebook and you will be notified of current sales and upcoming sales. I would imagine now is a great time to get clearance fragrances on sale. I would put them away in a box in a cool closet.

I bought a few things from a local maker of soap today. She charges me the Brambleberry list price with no shipping. She recently placed an order for herself and added a product for me that she doesn't carry.
