Hi everyone. I have a recipe that calls for ingredients that weigh 1.81, 14.45, 9.03, 4.4(lye), 10.13(water) and yields 45.24oz
My scale reads in 10th only. What can I do in this case?

I would actually get a more accurate scale, a digital one. They do not even have to be expensive either. Making soap it is very important that all ingredients are measured accuratly by the weight, it really is a safety issue because of the correct measuring of the lye. Get just a few grams wrong and your soap is not safe to use, or it will not have enough lye to make the oils into soap.

You have a couple options. If your scale has a grams function, use that and convert your recipe to grams. This will be more accurate since grams are a smaller unit of measurement. The other option is to round your numbers slightly. Round up on the oils and down on the lye. Yes, this will be less exact, but you will end up with a slightly higher superfat than initially calculated so your soap will still be safe to use.

Round up on your oils and round down on your lye. Unless you have an extremely accurate scale, those tiny amounts are not so crucial for water or oils.
