Hi I found a recipe for Oat and Manuka Honey soap below is the link...hopefully??

anyway...here are the ingredients:

Ingredients
(makes 1850 grams of soap)
180g (15%) Canola Oil
240g (20%) Coconut Oil
300g (25%) Pomace Olive Oil
240g (20%) Palm Oil
180g (15%) Rice Bran Oil
60g (5%) Shea Butter
163.8g Caustic Soda
396g Distilled Water
30g (3 scoops) Goat’s Milk Powder
1/2 heaped cup Oatmeal (ground)
45g Manuka Honey

my question is: if I want to substitute the powdered goat milk with fresh/frozen goat milk (frozen so the lye wont scold it) would I just substitute the volume of water listed? or should I also replace the volume of powders milk with water to give the lye a little liquid to mix with until it melts the milk? any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks Deb

If you want to use liquid goat milk, sub the milk for the water portion. Don't go by volume, only weight.
I use minimum water required to dissolve the lye, then use the rest of the liquid as milk.

second... I have another substituting question.

I have a recipe for a soap that consists of: PS I have doubled it

680g coconut oil
90g Shea butter
90p palm oil
46g olive oil
124g lye
344g water
54g lettuce fragrance oil...this is my problem ingredient I can not get it!!! my local shops looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked for it???
906g kosher or sea salt

can anyone recommend a substitute for the lettuce oil??? I was thinking of using lemon grass essential oil but how much? thinking that I would have the lemon cent but not the acidity of using a citrus essential oil

any suggestions

For the recipe above I get 144.7 grams of lye for a 7% superfat. Which lye calculator did you use?

As far as the lettuce fragrance oil, that is a scent from BrambleBerry. You can use any other fragrance oil. Just make sure you use it at a safe %.
You can use plain, table salt. Sea salt could make your soap weep.

But is there not a significant difference between fragrance oils and essential oils?
are essential oils not more concentrated so require less?

fyi I'm not at all happy with my Bramble Berry lye calculator. It had me second-guessing the recipes I was trying to make and in the end all I got was the equivalent of a lump of cement...the app did not give a place to add the additives and resulted in an absolute waste of ingredients and time...I will stick with the recipes from now on.
