My lye pitcher is polypropylene #5.

Irena, where did you purchase your polypropylene #5 pitcher? I searched online, and the ones I have seen specify temps no higher than 250 degrees. So far, my lye mixer hasn't gone over 210 degrees. Would you recommend this type of pitcher then?

I found this website while searching for a polypropylene container. I contacted their tech support and asked if this container would be safe for using lye mixed with distilled water to make soap. Here is his reply: "The PP pitchers will be compatible with lye."

The price is not that bad, but the shipping was a little over $7.00. I ordered the 3000ml (3 quarts).

You can also get stainless steal serving pitchers from restaurant supply stores for very low cost, they work great! I got a 1.5L pitcher for $4!

Im a dangerous girl then cause I pour my soap right out of the bowl. no spout on that either.
People using lye should know how to pour.

Are stainless steel pots with an inner layer of aluminum safe to use for soapmaking? A lot of them seem to have such an interior.

I use a stainless pitcher. I used plastic for a while--restaurant-grade, high end stuff... and three of them cracked. One with lye water in it. Stainless is the way to go for me.

Thanks soapbuddy and Mellifera, and if you don't mind me asking, where did you guys get your stainless steel pots/cookware from? The brand, line, name, size etc. are what I need, as much as you know. If anyone else can tell me what they use as well it would be GREATLY appreciated. That's the only way I can tell which cookware contains aluminum and which doesn't. Thanks for your help; I don't want any dangerous reactions.
