Finally had a chance to try my luck at this soap. I was surprised that it didn't take that long to trace, after much reading about the length of time castile soaps take I assumed I would be stick blending a lot longer. It took about 3-4 minutes to come to a good trace, I then left it for a minute or so to make sure there was no separation in the batter.

I can only assume this shorter trace(or shorter than I was expecting) was due to the 5% castor oil and goats milk. Opinions please:0)

Just checking it now and there is a tiny bit of oil sitting around some corners...pretty sure the soap will suck this back up eventually! Its also turning a really pretty cream color, different from the pouring color...love it. Can't wait to try this batch out after reading so much about how great these soaps can be!

Left this one all plain with no scent or color for all my super sensitive customers and little people...will be making another with scent and color I think!

Temps can make a difference too. I hit trace faster when I soap warm. I also get a faster trace when I soap with milk, though I soap cooler then, so I'm betting that is what helped you out. Water discounting can also get you a faster trace. It sounds like your soap is going to be lovely!

Faster trace can happen if you are using pomace oil.

OK, so cut this soap and am not liking its appearance...pics to follow when I can figure out how to upload them:)

It went through a partial gel phase and that part is distinctly different from the rest of the soap. My recipe was with soapcalc.

olive oil 64.1 oz
castor oil 3.3 oz
water 22.9oz
lye 8.4oz

I also put 4 Tbsp of GMP into the batter, soaped at about 120ish...warmer than normal. It took some time for the gel phase to start, was hoping it would complete, not!

Yes I should of done a small batch, figured OO soap was simple enough to do my normal size:0)

Here should be the photo, left is funky which is from the middle of the load. Right is an end cut of the loaf.

It looks fine. Lots of times the color will even out as it cures. :D

Mine get that patchy wave like look when the batch overheats slightly. As long and there is no zap it should be fine
