Compared to commercial liquid soap my liquid soap creates cloudy( slightly milky color) when used with water.

My CP liquid soap is made using potash hydroxide, soy, olive, coconut, palm kernel and the last batch included canola which didn't want to stay mixed when soap traced but multiple remixing fixed that.

When finished soap is diluted with water it remains clear, but as noted when used say for dish washing and further diluted the water becomes cloudy.

What causes this?

How much are you superfatting? How long are you cooking your liquid soap paste? Are you testing to neutral with phenophtalein? How much water are you using to dilute the paste into a liquid soap? Are you adding any fragrance?

At 5% superfat, I can see why the liquid soap is cloudy, due to the superfatting oils. Most people do a 0% superfat, then neutralize with a borax solution. Some essential oils can make the liquid soap cloudy too. I normally dilute 1:1.

Let me be certain if I understand your information. My recent batch of liquid soap paste(CP batch total 111.38 Oz.) consisted of 20.37 % Coconut, 19.89 % Soy Oil, 19.18 % Corn Oil, 13.99% KOA, 23.86 % water.

Batch divided into 4 parts - each diluted with 96 oz. of water for the finished soap. Eo about 5 drops Rosemary, 20 drops spearmint, 10 drops lavender, 10 drops tea tree, 20 drops peppermint added when paste is diluted.

At this dilution the soap is clear. It is when the finished soap is used with water that the cloudiness appears.

I'm not familiar with a borax solution, perhaps you can enlighten me - I'd appreciate the help. Ironically, my bar soap produces a similar cloudiness in water.

Thank you.

Here is a step by step tutorial for liquid soap. They use a borax solution. http://crafty.dyskolus.com/liquidsoap__cosmetics.html
Here is another site that uses borax. http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/liqui ... izeliq.htm
Do you have hard water?

Municipal Water ph is about 7 - city details shows it to be very good. We use a reverse osmosis filter and that water is typically what I use for dliution .

Thank you for the web referrals, I'll diligently study the info.

I think i am going to try making some liquid soap tomorrow. I know the cloudiness u r talking about when u mix cp soap into hot water. It's not really a bad thing, i kind of like it. Commercial liquid soap makes hot soapy water opaque as well but not as blue cloudiness. Brambleberry liquid soap video doesn't use Borax and i don't want to either. She says superfat to 2% and thicken up w/ saline water. Good video. http://www.brambleberry.com/Liquid-Soap ... P4828.aspx
