Teach Soap

I tried making some pumpkin shaped soaps today. They actually turned out cute, considering I totally forgot to wait until the soap was cool before pouring over the eyes (a little bleeding, but not terrible). But I'm not happy with the orange. Mostly because it's not really orange... Here's a pic:


For these I used yellow oxide and red oxide and probably way too much copper sparkle mica. I know the colors don't show great in the picture, but you get the idea, they're very brownish.

Would tangerine wow be better, or is it too neon for pumpkins? Any other colorant suggestions?

Those are cute pumpkins. Tangerine Wow alone probably won't give you the orange you want. Mix it with a little red oxide? That's worked for me with a different neon orange.

You didn't say - did you start with clear or opaque soap? When I do pumpkins, I use almost all clear (with a tiny, tiny bit of white after I get the color I want). Clear takes color much better and stays true right out of the bottle or jar. Will you be packaging these as a set? If so, I'd do slightly different colors for the set. If you look at pumpkins as they are growing, colors are different from pumpkin to pumpkin.

For these I used orange lab color, with a toothpick tip of brown oxide to get a few a little darker. A tiny bit of copper sparkle mica would probably do the same thing and add some great highlights.

I make my pumpkin soaps "cartoonish" (exaggerated color). I don't think people are looking for real. They are looking for cute and fun!
