Good morning soapers, it's been a while because I thought soaping wasn't for me, but I was wrong. Still a newbie with a few batches under my belt. Made a 5 lb recipe a few nights ago used lard with appropriate oils. Scented with some eo's and at the end almost near trace I decided to try coloring( never colored before) I used 2 tablespoons of comfrey( guide said 1 tablespoon per 16 ox of oil) color was beautiful. Left my soap alone for 48 hours, it set up beautifully but smells like seaweed, will the smell go away after curing?? I used lavender, bergamot, some cucumber fo,and a smidge of peppermint. Should I try to infuse natural colorants to stay away from the earthy kelps smell? Thanks ladies! I want to keep soaping(:

That smell will soften as the soap cures. Give it some time.

You certainly can infuse herbs for color and doing so will give you more flexibility, as some powders make soap a bit scratch and some will speckle the batter. But nothing is wrong with adding the powders at trace and some of them will incorporate without any scratching or speckling at all. As Irena said, the smell will cure out, so no worries about that.
