Teach Soap

After watching a lot of tutorials on YouTube I have a question about vinegar. Many say to use vinegar to neutralize lye if you splash it on your skin. I have also read that this does not help and the best thing to do is rinse very thoroughly. Has anyone splashed lye or raw soap on your skin and what did you do?

I have not had a major incident in all the years I have been soaping, knock a soap fairy around somewhere. For my occasional splish splashes I just rinse with water and feel that it is the best method. Now, if I spilled a bunch on the counter or floor, I would use the vinegar to neutralize so that I could then clean it up.

Vinegar and lye on your skin will create an exothermic reaction, which could make a skin burn worse. Use lots and lots of water instead.

I used water, then cut an aloe leaf and squeezed
that on....felt much better.
