Teach Soap

Hi,

Does anyone can tell me more or less what kind of smell the shea soap and goat milk soap smell like?

I bought some rebatch soap and it kind of smells funny. like old cooking oil that have been reused. something like that. Since i have never smell Shea or goat milk soap i wouldnt be able to know the different.
I want to make soap, but am not ready to use lye yet since am new to soap making. So I decide to buy rebatch soap.

By rebatch soap, do you mean melt and pour? Who did you buy it from?

I bought the following from Bramble Berry:
Grated Rebatch Soap Base - Goat Milk
Grated Rebatch Soap Base - Shea

and forgot to add this to my post, theres little pieces mix that are yellowish kind of burning yellowish. Can it be that why it smells funny. Once again thanks for any help.

When I make unscented soap, it generally has a bit of an oil smell. Not a sour smell like rancid oil, but like smelling vegetable oil or olive oil. Generally this changes to a more soapy smell over time.

I did when to smell the bags again and yeah it is kind of vegetable like, but not a rancid smell. im so excited to start making some soap

Be aware that a rebatch base will not be as smooth as soap made from scratch. The texture with added water will be more like mashed potatoes and a little lumpy. Take your time heating it up. Soap does have a mild scent of its own.

I can tell you about rebatch soap especially it is used to making to hand milled purpose, and approximately the weight of the rebatch is not more than one pound.
