Teach Soap

I am confused as to how to add cream to soap. I have seen people add heavy cream to the oils after the lye has been added. how much do you add and do you subtract the amount of cream from the amount of water. If you add the cream this way does it have a stench?

Use it in small amounts. Full fat cream contains butyric acid, which will make your soap smell bad.

so like an ounce maybe? after mixed oils and lye? and do i decrease amount of water?

1 oz is good. Sub it for part of your water.

Oh - I want to piggy back into this question. What about powdered milk additives like buttermilk, goats milk, yogurt, etc. In a 2lb oil - would you add them to the oil before or after lye mix? and would you pre-mix with water or add powder straight to oil and stick blend?

I always stick blend powdered milk into my oils and then add my lye water. I've never had a problem with that method.

I agree with Linda. I will reserve a little of the water, bring it to room temp or just above... then dissolve the goats milk powder in it. Before I warmed it the powder did not fully mix and I would get spots in my soap.
