106 degree Palm Oil melting at 75 degrees?

Hi,

I am using a Palm Oil that is supposed to melt at 106 but after a little hot weather it melted and it wasn't anywhere near 100. Now it's a cool 74 degrees and it is still a gooey mess with a consistency of porridge.

Has anyone seen this? How much will it affect the soap?

How big is the container and was it stored in a garage or someplace warm? Solid oils that melt in higher temps can take a while to solidify again. I've never heard of 106 degree palm oil. Are you sure it's not high degree coconut oil?

I would stir it very well, then use it in soap as normal.

My palm oil is usually pretty soft at room temperature, have never heard of a 106 degree palm!

I don't use palm oil, but ambient temps and the sun hitting your bottle are quite different temps. Think of a car, it may only be 70 degrees outside, but with the sun hitting the windows and metal, it can be 120-130 in the car, easily. Same principle, direct sun can be a lot hotter than the air temp. In fact, I routinely melt my coconut and babassu by sitting it outside for a while in the Summer or in the window in the Winter. And once it is melted, it does take a while to resolidify, but it will eventually (if it is out of direct light/heat).

I believe the no stir palm is hydrogenated as the mechanism for stabilizing the acid migration. That will increase its melting point, but I highly doubt it would be 106F.
