Teach Soap

Hey fellow soapers, wonder if anyone can throw some opinions about this recipe at me:)

I made GM/Oat/Honey, recipe as follows

almond oil 8%
avocado oil 10%
castor oil 7%
cocoa butter 5%
coconut oil 20%
olive oil 15%
palm oil 30%
shea butter 5%

Lye 115 grams
H2O 306 grams

I was looking to use an exsisting recipe I really liked that has 40% olive oil in it and sub away some of that oil for other oils that I thought suitable for my dry sensitive skin. This recipe doesn't have the bubbles I was hoping for, one of my few recipes that I didn't really like that much.

To the recipe I also added GMP @ 1 Tbsp PPO, Oats @ 2 Tbsp PPO and honey powder @ 1 tsp PPO and 1/2 the normal amount of a fragrance oil I liked to add a little more sweet scent to it.

ANyway, my thought now it to try the recipe again but up the coconut oil to 23%(I never like to go too high on this oil), down the castor oil(I have never had a problem with the 7% in any other recipe). Perhaps I should only use 1 of the butters...keep it simpler:) Opinions please.

Almond, avocado and castor are all soft oils and you have them at 25%. This leads me to believe that the soap will be soft for quite some time.

So the only reference for making BIGGER BUBBLES I've seen is from the book Soap Maker's Workshop by Dr. Robert and Katherine McDaniel. And it's implied, not stated outright.

In the very back of the book, the authors answer a question about whether or not castor oil will make more lather. In their answer, they say yes it will but they also go on to suggest adding extra glycerin because, "Glycerin essentially produces stronger bubbles, which resist thinning and breaking." My assumption is that stronger bubbles mean bigger bubbles, but I don't know if that's true.

I'd like to test it out - to see what it does to the bubbles & hardness of the bar. I suspect it will bubble bigger like many glycerin happy MP soaps but that the bar may too soft to make it a really useful trick.

If you have access to palm kernel and/or babassu, you can leave the hard lathering oils at 20% (that's the coconut in your original recipe) and split that percentage between the three.

I usually use 30% hard lathering oils, either coconut/palm kernel/babassu or coconut/palm kernel, evenly split.

Gets me lovely lather.
