Mae, do a search for glycerin soap dye. There are several companies that sell pre-mixed colors, dispersed in glycerin. Unfortunately I've not ordered from any of them, so can't vouch for them.

Here's one that looks promising

http://www.cierracandles.com/liquid-gly ... d-dye.html

but many other vendors carry similar products. To this purple, I'd add a touch of black liquid colorant from the end of a toothpick to get a deep purple.

I have a great navy blue liquid colorant and I just added a spec of liquid red and got a great deep purple. Unfortunately, company is no longer in business.

You might call Bramble Berry and ask their advice. They have this one
http://www.brambleberry.com/Liquid-Blue-P4055.aspx Question for them is what happens if you add red to it and in what ratio to get deep purple? Some get grayish/muddy looking.

They are very good on stuff like this.

If you need it to be non-bleeding, I can't think of a good solution for purple. I haven't had good luck with Ultramarine Violet and you'd need a lot more of it than Ultramarine Blue.

If I were making these, I'd probably resign myself to bleeding. I'd first try the Amethyst Purple Mica () or perhaps a LabColor if the mica didn't work out.

Mae -

Think I got it. I used Royal Purple lab color for the "board" and gold mica for the tassel. Let it sit overnight. No bleeding (yet) - because that tassel mold (it's really a fondant leaf border, which I happen to have here) pours a thick strip, does not appear to have any of the purple coming through. I took some pictures, which I'll try to post. Color in the picture looks blue, but it IS a deep purple.

Ignore the messy blob on the top :) - this was a quick and dirty. And I cut the top from an existing circle I had, so it's thicker than it should be. The tassel is easy to work with - bends easily while still not completely hard and hasn't broken yet.

Hope pictures are sized correctly.

Thanks, Irena. Colors look great in person.

Third day and still no hint of bleeding - purple and gold holding up well. Tassel still unbroken, even after being knocked around on my drying table, unprotected and unwrapped.

Thank you Robert and Connie for all the advice- Connie you are amazing! love what you did, the tassel is brilliant! Non-bleeding is a problem but I recently made a bunch of soaps that I painted- they are cute and no bleeding problems! So basically I'm probably going to use the purple lab color- like the idea of a little black in there :) and see what I get. I think it will work because I found an awesome paint at Michael's that works better than any other I've tried. It's called "Patio Paint." Martha Stewart's craft paint works well too because Patio Paint colors are limited. I am at Disney World right now, visiting my grandchildren. When I get home to California, I'll let you know how it all went. Pics too. thanks you guys. You all rock!!
