I make my liquid laundry soap from any natural bar soap. What I was wanting to know is if I make a lard soap can I use it in my liquid soap? What I do is melt the soap with water and add borax and washing soda. I then let it jell add more water and stick blend until it's liquid. Then I pour it in my old gain containers. Since it has lye if I let it cure and everything can I use it in the soap? If not how do you use your laundry bars if you make them?

It's best to use soap that has 0% superfat, so any extra (superfated) oils don't end up on your laundry. You can use lard. That's what my mother used.

When using your own home made laundry soap do you find that you have to do a vinegar rinse?

I've never used handmade bar soap in my homemade laundry detergent (want to try it eventually though!). I've always used bars of Fels Naptha mixed with borax, washing soda, baking soda and oxyclean. I leave mine as a powder.

I've never needed to do a vinegar rinse though. If anything...I've noticed my clothes come out of the wash machine cleaner, drier, and feel like they have less soap residue. I've noticed a significantly lower amount of time in the dryer. It was explained to me that with store bought detergent, more of the soap residues stay in your clothes and that makes them retain more water through the spin cycle.

I have no idea if this all changes with the use of home made soap bars grated into the detergent instead of the Fels Naptha though. It doesn't seem like it would change but I could be wrong.

I've been making soap that is 2 parts lard to 1 part coconut with a 1% superfat (margin of error  ) that both my sister and I use for powdered laundry detergent. It works well and we both have HE machines. I add just a bit of EO to cut any odor from the lard, and to make laundry slight less onerous.

In fact, I should really make up another batch for myself so it is ready when I need it.

I made a recipe this week that "cheats" by using liquid castille soap as the base plus vinegar, glycerin, water & EOs. I've never tried making my own laundry detergent, so this should be an adventure.

I've been making mine for several years and I like a 50% lard, 50% coconut oil best of all for laundry soap. I don't use fabric softener or vinegar rinse. I do use the silicone dryer balls in the dryer and they work really well.

Ok, that sounds a lot like the first homemade laundry soap I tried that a friend made...other than the homemade bar of soap that is. lol
I really like the powder but she loves the liquid. :)

So far I have done about 6 loads with my homemade luandry soap and it works fine. Dosnt smell super scented like store brands but I ony used a sample sized bottle of baby poweder scent but it cleans our clothes so Im happy. Next time I make a batch I think I will add a little more scent to half of it for my clothes and no scent to my sons as he has skin problems. So far no dingey or bad smells or stains left or anything. I wish I could pay someone to do my housework and luandry
