I love my sister to pieces but she little imagination when it comes to new products and she is a creature of habit. For christmas I gave her husband and my mom hand made oatmeal milk and honey soap I got from someone that makes them.My mom loved it so she says but my sisters husband wont even try the bar I gave him. He has skin isues but insists on useing dishsoap to wash with becuase he works with cars and says its the only thing that will get the oil and grease off. I talked to my sister and she says she wont use bar soap and likes body wash but dosnt want to try non store bought. I know that her whole family , her husband with his skin and job, my sister with her shall we say ageing skin and my older niece with her teenage acne and oily skin issues would all benifit from hand made specialty soap products but if mom is not on board no one else will want or get to try them. Has anyone else tried to convert a store brand only person. I have tried to get her to try my homemade luandry soap as well and it was a no go. Are there any convinceing arguments I can use to help her see that hand made non chemical added soaps are better.
Thanks

Nope, you gotta just let people do their own thing.

I had this exact same conversation with a friend of mine about the life choices his little brother is making.

Have you tried explaining the difference between store bought vs homemade? The different chemicals that are used to produce those types of bath products. If all else fails and they aren't convince, you'll have to let them be.

BTW, I read somewhere you are from Oregon. What part? I'm a Portlander, but recently moved to Seattle.

Not everyone appreciates handmade items. it's not just soap. I've found it a complete waste of time to give some members of my family crocheted scarves, handmade bags, handmade wreaths, etc. Similarly though, my sister would be wasting her breath to try to convince me to be a vegetarian... you just have to respect and accept people for their differences.

Thanks everyone. I will try looking up all the chemicals in the store bought stuff and there side effects and tell her about that she is usually pretty good when it comes to the health of her kids but I doubt I will sway her and your right everyone feels diffrently about stuff I just like to help me and my son have skin issues so when I know someone else does as well I want to help them.

I am actually in the Columbia river gorge scenic area about 85 or so miles from Portland. It is very nice here. I have only been to Seattle 2wice both times for Ratapooloza

To compare, a friend told me of a mother she knew that didn't want her daughter shaving her legs with a razor because it was just too dangerous. Instead she'll let her use a hair remover like Nair.

I have a coworker who thinks GMO food is great because its all about bigger yields.

Some battles are just not worth fighting IMO. If she doesn't want to use natural products, don't waste your breath.

Just my .02

This is hard. We all have people like this in our lives. No matter what I tell my daughter she won't use anything but store bought soap on her face.

This is so true! A fellow vendor wanted me to start making lotion like her favorite. It's expensive and hard to find but she says it's the only one that works for her. The third ingredient is propylene glycol! She never talked about it again when I mentioned it was antifreeze. She still uses that lotion all the time though!
