Hi
Wondered if someone could shed some light on how much clay to use in CP? I have searched the interet for this info as well as other properties and such of the clays I bought and haven't found much!

I bought White (Kaolin) Clay, Rhassoul Clay and Dead Sea Mud. I was thinking that 1tsp PPO would be plenty but is this enough? Was thinking about using the mud in soap as well as on my daugher and myself for facials as I did read that it has a lot of great skin properties!

I also read that white clay helps with EO scent loss in CP, anyone know if this if true???

Thanks

Kaolin clay is more suitable for sensitive skin, Rhassoul Clay for oily (or acne prone) skin and dead sea mud for dehydrated skin. Start with 1 tsp. PPO.

yes you can use clay to anchor some scents.
I use Dead Sea Mud in a soap I make and I use about 1 Tbs. ppo (per pound of oils), but I only do this in half the bar and just do a plain batter in the other half. You can use less though and still have a good effect.
As for clay, you can use from 1 tsp to 1 Tbs ppo. The amount you need to achieve the desired affects will depend upon your recipe and super fat. You will likely have to experiment a bit before deciding on the perfect combination. :)

Certainly clay could be drying, which is why I would never go over 1 Tbs. ppo. But I have used up to that amount and been fine. It really depends a lot on your particular recipe. If you are concerned with that, why not try 1-2 tsp ppo first, and a superfat of at least 6-7%? I usually sf at 7-8% and use 2 tsp to 1 Tbs of clay. So experiment and see what you like best with your recipe.
To anchor the scent you need to use a base note if you use another eo (like vetiver or patchouli or another base note) or you can use a clay, or use can use both. Citrus is a top note and is always fleeting in whatever it is used in, especially in cp soap, but it adds a nice layer, so hang in there trying to use it.

In my experience, when I sf a bit higher it off sets the drying effect of the clay. Remember that I use a half and half with my clay soap, the top half clay and the bottom half plain soap. When I use a lot of clay for color, I always up the sf a bit more and it works well.

One thing you can do with your clays is use them as natural colorants. There are some pretty pictures with usage rates here.
