So tonight i soaped again, and another problem

I heard lard was good for making a soap bar harder and give a nice lather, so i tried it out tonight, and now I have lard/grapefruit scented soap.Ew!

Does the icky smell go away? or when i use lard from now on do I have to use a much stronger FO?

Yes it can smell "piggy". Did you render the lard yourself or did you buy it? Some brands have a stronger smell then others. You need to make sure when you melt the lard that you do it slowly. Don't let it overheat. Melt til there are a few pieces left, then stir melt the rest of the way with the heat off.

I have heard, but don't have any personal experience, that fresh lard has little to no odor. The recommendation I've heard is to ask the butcher in the meat department at your grocery (or at a dedicated butcher shop) for fresh lard. There are different qualities of lard (e.g., leaf & back lard are higher quality), but I don't know if that affects the smell.

I bought it at a store in the hispanic section. I didn't melt it slowly! maybe it was cooking
