Does the 'fishy' smell go away? Had a recipe that called for it, added it at the end (I Hot Processed the batch). Right now it is a complete turn off, even with the Lemongrass, Rosemary and Cedarwood EOs. It isn't a strong fishy oder, but enough to make me want to dump the batch.....

Was working on a 'natural' seaside, oceany scent....any other suggestions?

Yes, it will end up with that "fishy" smell. There is no oceany scent that you could make with essential oils that I know of.

Thanks! That's what I thought. Next batch, i am omitting the kelp and keeping the EO blend. THAT'S a keeper.

Kelp as far as I'm concerned is really, really horrible in soap. Someone gave me some and I threw it away, I could not stand the smell, neither could anyone else!

You can use spirulina instead of kelp. It doesn't smell much (some but it is easily covered) and it has nice green coloring. :D

thanks guys! Glad I posted this question here....some of the other forums are a little intense and stand-offish.... at least I am not made to feel like it was a foolish question....

This is by far my favorite soap forum.

I just used it in a batch. It did smell bad at first... But I think the smell is gone now. I have to wait for the soap to cure completely to know for sure. The fo I used was fresh bamboo from bb.

I have some that I made about a year and a half ago. It wore off. :) (And I used rosemary and a citrus, if I recall correctly, to scent those bars!)

I've used it, and it does eventually lessen. I think I used Rosemary and some citrus if I remember correctly. But there will always be a hint of it in there.

I love learning from all your guys posts. I have a comment about sea kelp though I have never soaped. Sea kelp is good for you and full of good stuff so I would soap with it even if it smelled funny I bet there are FO and EO out there that you can use alone or mixed that would help go with and cover the worst of the offending smell. I take kelp as a dietary supplment along with garlic and milk thistle , and I almost never get sick with cold or flu even though I am immune comprmised to a degree. Happy soaping :D
