definitely should not have added the liquid soap you did, but too late now. Lesson learned. Once you calculate your lye and water you need to leave that alone and not alter your recipe without altering your calculations. Your soap may or may not harden, depends upon what all is in that "natural" soap that you added...... live and learn!

it's a tiny bit harder than yesterday, I might take a little piece and try it out. The amount I added was so small that I though it wouldn't matter, couse I read at this other forum, that a girl does the same thing do her bar cleanes a bit better. but yeah I'll see when I try it :)
My shampoo has all these herbs in it, and only one chemical - SLS...

Ya gotta love those "all natural" soaps that have sls  in them!

You can usually add a tablespoon or two to of an additive (usually an oil or butter) a batch of soap without recalculating, as long as your super fat is enough to cover it, so maybe your soap will continue to harden. It all depends upon those pesky ingredients that you really don't know. Even IF they listed all the ingredients, and not all companies do, you still don't know the proportions to calculate the lye. So it is a wait and see. Much luck!

hey guys, long time no read ( :?: )

so...I am LOVING my bars latelay, I don't know if I did them wrong before, or I didn't lather and wash enough but now...it's awesome....ACV I absolutely can NOT use as my hais gets greasy from it and it's nasty...so I use conditioner .....sometimes I don't even use conditioner, and just add a few drops of Argan oil through my hair after wasjing it :)))

I'm sooo happy!

So now i wanna try something different...and I have 2 questions:

1) What does beeswax do? If I put in the recipe, couse Soaplcal. says it neithers adds hardnes, clean.,condioting, or bubblyness...so what does it do?

2) Could I make a shampoo bar with just lye and olive oil? I mean, only use olive oil and castor oil?
.

Using a max of 2% beeswax of your recipe will add extra hardness to your finished product. But adding too much makes a softer bar and decreases the lather. The key is the amount of beeswax used. Try playing on soapcalc with the numbers and remember that you are not just looking at the individual numbers, but the over-all bar.

Yes, you can make a 100% olive oil soap or an olive and castor oil soap. They will take longer to trace, be softer (in the beginning) and take longer to cure (as in 4-6 months), but in the end they make very hard bars. They have a different feel to them, a different lather, but many people love them. For some, the lather is a bit of an acquired taste. The 100% olive oil is called Castille soap (although a lot of people these days call their soap Castille even when it is not pure olive oil)
and the mostly olive is usually called Bastille soap.

Have fun making it. It can be a great swirl practice soap!

I was tired when I posted my response and I just now caught that you want to make this a shampoo bar. While you can, I am not sure you'd like it for shampoo. Of course, if you don't, it is still good for a body soap. I personally don't care for Castille soap, and I definitely wouldn't want to use it in my hair, but plenty of people love it, and you may too! If you do use it for your hair, be sure to come back and update this post, cuz I'd love to know what you think.

eta: you won't get a lot of bubbles with this as a shampoo and the lather tends to feel a bit "slimy" to some people. But, as i said, a lot of people love, love their Castille/Bastille soaps. So have fun experimenting and let us know what you think of it for a body bar and for a shampoo bar.
