I ran a recipe through BB lye calculator and it said to use 3.63 oz of water. I ran the exact same recipe through Soapcalc's lye calculator and it said to use 4.18 oz of water. I though this was a significant difference considering it was only for a 1lb batch.

What does the difference in water amount do to the soap when you make it?

More water means longer drying time and more shrinkage. It can also allow more working time when making a batch.

If you run the same recipe through The Sage lye calc https://www.thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php that one gives you variances in water.

The soapcalc calculator give you the percentage of water you put into it. If you don't put in your own number, you get the default rate, which is their maximum amount of water, I think it is set to 38% if I remember correctly. If you want a lower %, just put in what you want.
