Got a book a few weeks ago called Natural Soap by Melinda Coss.

But i've never heard of the methods she says to do with all the cold process recipes in the book.

She says to pour your lye water (not cooled down) into your ingredients (not melted) and mix then bring to trace.
I take it she means the lye water will melt your ingredients, but im not sure.

I always thought you had to melt your ingredients and let both that and your lye water sit to cool down before mixing and bringing to trace.

Has anyone else ever heard of this method?

I use that method when I'm not room temp soaping and if I don't need to do swirling & stuff.
The lye water does melt the hard oils/butters.
But it can sometimes speed up trace.

That is the method I use almost all the time.

If you are new to CP, I would stick with the more traditional method of heating your oils and having the lye & oils at the same temp until you are comfortable with the process before trying a new method. :D

And this method doesn't work if you use beeswax.

Thank you for the feedback ladies

i think i will be sticking to the traditional method as i just feel more comfortable with it.

But this method i may try at some point when i am more confident my cold process soaps are good :)

I do this method almost all of the time too. I use the lye water to melt the hard oils, then add the soft oils. My temp is about 103 after I mix everything together.
