Teach Soap

Just curious: how is making a bar of soap and specifiying it is for acne not making a "claim" - which is something that, I thought, one was supposed to steer clear of?

The implication is that if you have acne, the soap will make it better. OR is it that it "won't make it worse" and that's a subtle difference?

What does it matter?

You cannot make any medical claims; period. Go take a look at the FDA site.

Well I am not selling my soap anyways. Besides that I bought soap at the store that says it is for acne so what is the difference?

Man they do seem to make selling soap so complicated. I could see how it could make people feel like a dog jumping through hoops in a circus. It is a wonder anyone sells it with all these strict rules. I though about selling my soap but with all the stuff I have been hearing about it, it doesn't seem like it would even be worth it.

Is it even ok to give it away

So what you have to get liability insurance to even give it away

or could you put like a warning label on it or something?

What if you give it away and take donations to cover material costs?

Well, it's up to you what kind of risk you want to take - but anyone who uses your soap could potentially turn around and sue you if it caused a skin problem for them. And if they sue you, and you don't have liability insurance, then it could really open yourself up to getting financially mangled. This is why so many soap makers will tell you that the most important thing you need to do if anyone besides family will use your soap is get liability insurance.
