I am all measured and about to measure my last oil and oh no...no castor. What is a good substitute for 2 oz of castor for lather? I have not mixed my lye and water so I can run through calculator with substitute. I have sweet almond, apricot kernel, avocado, peach kernel, grapeseed, soybean oil.

None of those have the same qualities as castor. Recalculate your recipe with a 2 oz. sub of any of the oils you have on hand and add 1 tsp. of sugar to a small portion of water. Add the sugar mixture as soon as your oils and lye are mixed.

Here is how I would change it.

Avocado Oli 2.2
Coconut Oil 13
Grapeseed Oil 3.4
Olive Oil 15
Shea Butter 1 2.
Total Weight 34.6
For that size batch you would need 4.9 ozs. of lye (7% superfat) and 9 to 13 ounces of water. Hold back about a 1/2 oz. of water, add 1 tsp. of sugar to it. Add that to your combined oils and lye. I would gel this batch as it has a high olive oil content, but watch our for any signs of overheating.

Irena...so far so good....it started to gel really well and the temp started going up but it did not overheat. Woot! thank you Hope you meant 1.2 on the Shea because that is what I used.

I use Castor in my recipe. Like a dummy, I bought Canola instead, didn't realize this until after my soaps were made. WHOOPS! They set up fine! I didn't change my calculations either. They are still curing. As this was my first order, I accidentally ordered M&P labcolor instead of CP. They were a beautiful canary yellow but changed to an icky caramel. I Could this have been from the oil mishap?? I'm asking because my first batch was made with a pink low ph labcolor too and the color was true. That batch was made with castor.

MP Labcolors are specifically made for MP soaps. They can morph in cold process soaps, due to the pH. Neither canola nor castor would make your soap caramel, unless your soap overheated, or you used a fragrance that discolors.
