I have made my second batch of CP . (My first being a Castille that is at 4 months curing time.) I CPOP'd this one because I wanted to ensure gel phase. I noticed when taking it out of the oven the next morning that there was oil that had separated but I set it aside, hoping it would leach back in if given time. It is 5 days later and I figured I had better get it out of the mold and cut before it gets too hard. (I've been too busy to get around to it.) It turns out that my FO has leached out and it is still there. I sopped it up with a paper towel after determining what it was. It passed the zap test and smells like my FO. What did I do wrong?
Basic 2 lb recipe from Anne Marie's Cold Process e-book with added Oatmeal, Milk and Honey FO (BB) and 2 Tbsp. ground traditional oats. I converted to grams for more accuracy.
Olive 9oz
Palm 6oz
Coconut 6oz
Castor 1oz
Lye 85.26 grams (8% discount)
Water 7.30 fl oz
FO 7 oz
Oats 2 Tbsp.
Mixed lye water and oils at 116*F and 115*F respectively. Added FO and oats at trace. Poured at what I think was a medium trace because it poured nicely and I was able to play with texturing the top but it didn't hold up as well as I wanted. Put it in the oven at 150*F for one hour then turned oven off (at 3:30pm). Let sit overnight before removing. That is when I noticed the oil had pooled to one side. My oven isn't completely level. It is old and may not be completely accurate in temperature as well. I should get an oven thermometer and check that out. My soap did not get darker as I suspected, so it may not have gelled. I used a flat silicone mold (brownie style). My soap is only about an inch thick so I figured it would gel easily in the oven. I haven't cut it yet to see what the inside looks like. I can't think of any more info that would help but I have probably given you more than you need.
